Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the delegation headed by Manuel Gonzalez Sanz, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religion of the Republic of Costa Rica

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov noted that Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to its relations with South and Central American countries and the relations are on the steady growth with the establishment of diplomatic missions in several countries of the region. In this regard he stressed Azerbaijan's interest for cooperation with Costa Rica. Minister also underlined the importance of such visits for determining the areas of cooperation.

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov emphasized the need for strengthening political dialogue in accordance with the mechanism of political consultations between two countries. Moreover, talking about parliament diplomacy as an important component of international relations, Minister said that the establishment of inter-parliamentary friendship groups would be mutually beneficial.

Elmar Mammadyarov informed his counterpart about Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict adding that the conflict constitutes the major obstacle to the regional integration. He went on to stress that violation of internationally recognized borders of states by force is unacceptable.

Costa Rican Minister Manuel Gonzalez Sanz expressing his delight with his first ever visit to Azerbaijan noted the remarkable achievements of our country during the past 20 years. Furthermore, he said that his country is interested in the cooperation with Azerbaijan in the fields of humanitarian affairs, economy and tourism. Along with that, he underlined that exchange of students will open up new opportunities for the cooperation.

Minister noted that Costa Rica has abandoned his army and relies on the supremacy of the international law on the settlement of international issues.

During the meeting the sides discussed the ways on the development of legal-treaty base between the two countries, and had an exchange of views on investments and political, economic and social issues of South Caucasus and Central American regions.
